Susan has been involved in educational leadership, teaching and research activities for over 30 years.  Initially she was educated and worked as a primary school Teacher before moving into secondary teaching, management and leadership roles in secondary schools, museum education, university, polytechnic, indigenous wananga and Pasifika organisations, private tertiary education and business contexts. Areas of special research interest to Susan include Higher Education   curriculum design and development, quality teaching and learning,  effective quality assurance systems, practice-based research, experiential education, tertiary staff capacity building, educational leadership and equity in educational provision.
 Susan was a UNESCO Scholarship Recipient in 1978, and Chaired the NZQA Dance Subject Advisory Group, Research and Ethics teams and committees and in 2003 won a University Faculty Emerging Researcher Award.  She has also held roles as a: Lecturer, Senior Lecturer in a Teachers College and University, New Zealand University Department Head, University Research Fellow, specialist Degree Programme Advisor/Designer/Developer, NZQA Course Approvals and Accreditations Advisor, National Academic Manager as well as held a variety of professional, research and educational and professional Society’s leadership positions and editorial roles.          
Over her thirty years in education Susan has lead or contributed to over 32 degree qualification designs or re-development Projects and was appointed as an NZQA degree approval and accreditations panellist/chair in 2010.  Founding House of Montrose Limited in 2006, Susan and is now a ‘hands on’ Chief Executive Director leading the company’s Board of Directors, ‘House of Montrose Education Consultants’ and the ‘New Zealand Curriculum Design Institute’ a NZQA Registered and Approved Course Owner organisation.

Dr Elly Govers
DipTchg(Sec), NCALE(Vocational Tutor), MSc (Physics), PhD (Physics, Catholic University Nijmegen), EdD (University of Waikato)

Elly has over 25 years experience in tertiary education, as researcher, lecturer, academic advisor and education consultant, at polytechnics and universities, in New Zealand and overseas. She taught mathematics, statistics, physics, computing and chemometrics in various science degree programmes in the Netherlands. As a lecturer she was strongly involved in many curriculum developments. As academic advisor at the University of Twente, Elly developed expertise in developing and facilitating project-based learning, university teacher education, and technology supported education. She also led the curriculum development group at the university’s educational support centre and as such was involved in many curriculum innovation projects at this university.
Since coming to New Zealand in 2003 Elly has worked at the Eastern Institute of Technology. She has been involved with numerous programme developments and reviews. She has also developed and managed the project to embed literacy and numeracy at this institution. Other projects have included, but are not limited to, staff development courses and institutional processes to strengthen teaching and learning. Stimulated by her interest in curriculum design Elly completed a doctorate in education in 2011, for which she developed an explanation of programme design practice in a polytechnic in New Zealand. This research project has only strengthened Elly’s interest in curriculum theory and practice and she is continuing her research in this area.
Elly’s academic background in the sciences as well as the social sciences has helped her become a strong analytical and critical thinker. With her theoretical understanding of curriculum and her experience across higher education organisations and in different cultural contexts she may ask out-of-the-box questions to support the development of innovative curriculum.

Dr Donald Joyce


CertAd&Tert.Ed, BSc (Hons), and PhD, (University of Cambridge)

Donald has a vast and successful background as a Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Professor, Academic Quality Adviser, Group Facilitator and Mentor in both university and polytechnic settings in New Zealand and overseas.  Donald has held positions at Unitec, Massey University and the Universities of Auckland, Cambridge, Newcastle-on-Tyne, Otago, Oxford, Papua New Guinea, and the South Pacific.   He has also served as chair of the National Advisory Committee on Computing Qualifications (NACCQ). Recent publications include a textbook used in 13 countries, 66 papers in conference proceedings (17 international and 49 national), 35 other conference presentations(11 international and 24 national) and 20journal papers (9 international and 11 national).  Academic quality system work has included contributions and leadership roles related to academic issues, academic integrity, academic standards, academic statutes, appointments and promotions, postgraduate studies, preliminary studies, undergraduate studies, and university status. His research interests have in the main focussed on academic integrity, assessment and Student success, programme development, delivery and review.  Donald has directed qualifications from certificate to doctoral level, served on two NZQA panels, acted as a subject expert for a PTE’s application for approval and accreditationof a degree and as a degree monitor at three institutes of technology. Successful supervision of Master’s and doctoral Students is also a key skill and area of experience. Donald is a highly competent, innovative and methodical consultant who can provide Clients with quality solutions, systems and materials.

Dr Mary Panko
    
BSc (Hons) Zoology; GDipHE, PhD. (University of New England)

Mary has taught at both a Polytechnic and a University in the UK for many years where she was a Scottish National Examiner for Biology, and Director of a Flexible Learning Centre before moving to New Zealand to become Programme Director for the Graduate Diploma in Higher Education at Unitec Institute of Technology, Auckland. In this position she developed a number of courses for adult educators, specialising in areas of educational technology.  She then extended this interest into her PhD research with the University of New England (Armidale, New South Wales) where she examined the impact of Teachers’ beliefs on their work in an online environment. Since gaining her PhD she has focussed on the influence that educators’ perceptions have on the design and delivery of their teaching, with particular emphasis on Teachers from China.  Mary also took up the position of leading the MEd at Unitec and developed a strong involvement with supervision techniques, influenced greatly by the increasing numbers of international Students’ pursuing postgraduate study. Her other role at Unitec has been working with colleagues from the Trades areas and encouraging them to get their research recognised academically. For several years Mary was an executive member of HERDSA (NZ) and on the editorial board of DEANZ. Mary brings a warm manner and a wealth of experience and understandings to all those she works with, an especially talented academic development coach.

Dr Pip Bruce Ferguson

CTeAra Reo, DipEd, TTC, CAd&Tert.Tchg, BA, MSoc.S(Ed&Psy), GDipSocS., PhD.

Pip has worked extensively in the field of Higher Education staff development and capacity building in the areas of teaching, learning, working with diverse Student populations and research culture and capacity building.  She has held roles in New Zealand University, wananga and polytechnic settings as a Researcher, Research Mentor, Professional Development Tutor, Senior Lecturer, Research Reviewer, Teaching Developer, Research Support Manager and Regional Research Organisation Co-ordinator.  Pip has an extensive peer reviewed publication history, and has published a range of papers in supporting equitable learning achievements by different ethnic groups, effective teaching and learning practices, research cultural development and evaluation, staff support, organisational development, consultation and engagement, and staff support, induction in to Higher Education organisations,  curriculum design and development.  Action research was the focus of Pip’s doctoral investigation and she is renowned in this specialised area. Pip is currently a member of the New Zealand Press Council, and has been a PBRF Sector Group Member.  Today Pip is on the editorial panel for Action Research International Journal (since 1998) and a foundation member and peer reviewer for EJOLTS (Educational Journal of Living Theories).  Pip is a capable and approachable consultant with a range of diverse experiences to bring to Clients she works with.

Dr Debbie Bright

BA, Tchg Dip.(Sec), Cert.TT, MSp&Rec and PhD (University of Waikato).
Debbie is an innovative educator with experience as a tutor, teacher, sessional assistant, teaching fellow, consultant, fitness instructor, dancer, lecturer, kura kaupapa kaiako, participant in arts projects, researcher and learning resource developer, working with students with intellectually and special abilities in a range of subject areas.  She also worked extensively in research presenting projects she has undertaken in the Arts, Ethnography, and across disciplines and presented these in both New Zealand and Australia.  Between 2006 and 2010, Debbie was a University of Waikato Doctoral Scholar and in 2009 a University of Waikato Finalist in the “Th3sis in Three” doctoral competition.  Educational skills and knowledge expertise areas include designing and delivering learning programmes to adult learners, and tailoring staff development programmes to meet tutor/lecturer needs.  Debbie also has experience with a range of web based tools such as Zamzar, LMS, WebCT/Blackboard and Class Forum plus Moodle.  A fluent speaker of English, competent in French and Maori and with some skills in German and Spanish, Debbie has understandings of a range of different cultures and ethnicities.  Debbie is a member of HERDSA, DANZ, and ICDFA, is a warm person with strong communication skills, a sense of humour and an energy and passion for everything she does. Debbie has an ability to see the big picture, but pay attention to detail and people while being a creator of learning and an effective capability facilitator.

Kishwer Kingschild

Kishwer has a significant body of successful experience in teaching Business, Marketing, Management, New Zealand Business Law, Business Administration, Employment Skills, Project Management, Business Planning, Literacy and Numeracy and Computing Education fields in private and Polytechnic Higher Education settings in New Zealand.  Her experience also includes the full design and development of an innovative three year level 7 Business Computing qualifications.  Kishwer has experience in management and has been a programme leader of level 5 and 6 National Business Diplomas and other business qualifications.  She is well regarded by her peers in the business world and education worlds and has frequently been invited to consult on adult education and business related qualifications and to act as a business sub expert.  All assessment materials Kishwer has produced have been very well reviewed by NZQA and National Moderators in the areas concerned.  Kishwer has an outstanding (100% approved) and extensive body of effective External Pre and Post Moderation work as a Consultant.  Her experience also includes developing and supporting other staff teaching on her programmes, innovative qualification design, quality assurance system development, Stakeholder consultation and engagement, implementation of a range of quality   assurance systems, coaching and facilitating capacity building of staff workshops.  Research and Ethics Committee work and research team project contributions are also an area of special interest and expertise.  Kishwer is a consultant with a warm and caring personality and has a track record of supporting Clients to reach previously unexpected achievements especially those supporting international, migrant, refugee and highly challenged students.
