Retail

Course Aim:

This course aims to equip graduates with the advanced practice-based knowledge, skills, attitudes and values to enter a manager role in a range of retail businesses or companies. Graduates will have professional-level understandings and practical experience in a range of retail management systems.  Those being targeted for entry to this course are domestic and international individuals with introductory professional-level knowledge and skills of business or management who aspire to embark on a career as a specialist retail manager in New Zealand or overseas.
 
Course Outcome:
Graduates of this course will be capable of effectively and professionally managing a small or medium size retail business or a department in a large national or international company corporation.
 
Course Content:
Course content includes retail environment, retail business communication, customer focus for strategic advantage, financial planning and information for retail managers, business information systems, retail strategic management and sustainable work practices, managing retail logistics, managing retail operations, retail marketing, retail business law in New Zealand, work-based learning experiences, and applied retail project.
 
Entry Requirements:
All domestic students must be at least 18 years old and hold a Level 4 or 5 qualification in Business, Retail and/or Computing or equivalent, or have 4 years retail experience or 2 years in a trainee or retail management position.  International students must be at least 19 years old and have an average English IELTS proficency level in Academic English at a 6.5 level plus hold a Level 5 qualification in Business and/or Computing or equivalent. Previous work experience or a demonstrated interest in the retail sector would be an advantage.  All applicants to the course will be required to complete an application form which demonstrates their interest in the retail sector and may be interviewed to assess their suitability for the course.

Paper Credit Value:  15 credits per paper

Graduate Options:
Retail Business Manager, Retail Operations Manager, Retail Business Owner, Retail Supervisor, Retail Business Budget, Marketing or Stock Control Manager.

Ongoing Career Pathways: 
Retail Business Systems Analyst, Retail Business Advisor, Bachelor of Business or Retail, MBA, Retail Business Senior Manager or Advisor, National or International Department or Section Manager.
